1. Melgaço

The thermal properties of Águas do Peso have been recognized and valued for many years, more specifically since 1884, when the wife of a doctor from Vila Nova Cerveira was cured, who suffered from a stomach disease. 2. Monção

Known since 1726, this spa is located in a beautiful park (Parque das Caldas), by the Minho River, bordering Spain. The resort is equipped with the latest technologies in hydrotherapy, which optimizes the use of mineral resources and medical supplies to treat bronchitis, rheumatism and respiratory tract infections. 3. Gerês

This thermal spa with mineral water springs are located in the heart of the Peneda-Geres National Park, surrounded by lakes and mountains of rare beauty. During excavations in the twentieth century, coins found near the springs were proof that the ancient Romans knew about these sources. This modern thermal spa is equipped with the latest equipment and provides a full range of services. 4. Chaves

The resort town of Chaves, with the ancient Roman name Aquae Flaviae, was one of the most prosperous of the Roman Empire in the Iberian Peninsula. There is no doubt that his fame and fortune are due to its unique hot springs. It is said that ancient Roman warriors attended the warm waters of Aquae Flaviae to restore power after the military campaigns and to heal the physical and psychological wounds. Today Chaves is a modern and comfortable resort. The thermal waters of Chaves are the hottest on the peninsula (73 C). 5. Vidago

The Spa at the Vidago Palace is surrounded by beautiful forests of cedar, pine and holly. The SPA benefits of the mineral water and offers a variety of services. Vidago is the largest spa in Portugal, the water from its source is indicated for the treatment of digestive disorders, allergies (asthma) and migraines. The SPA centre is open all year.


6. Caldas Santas de Carvalhelhos

Towering 800 meters above an ancient fortress, surrounded by a dense forest and the hills of the Barroso park mountains, this thermal spa is the perfect place to relax and recharge. The water from this source, due to its healing properties, is considered a "saint." The mineral water is used to treat digestive problems, poor circulation and skin diseases. 7. Caldelas

8. Taipas

The Taipas Spa has a medical staff consisting of two Hydrologists, Dr. Augusto Dias and Dr Nuno Dias de Castro. The resort, with highly qualified technicians, has the necessary technical equipment for the provision of modern treatment methods (geothermal chocotherapy, aromatherapy, anti-cellulite program). Thermal waters are used in the treatment of respiratory tract infections, rheumatism, muscular-skeletal disorders and skin diseases. The complex is open from April to December.


9. Pedras Salgadas

Set in a beautiful park in northern Portugal, in the historical building of the Pedras Salgadas Thermal Spa, this spa is the most suitable place for rest and relaxation. 10. Caldas da Saúde

The first mention of the sources of Caldas Health dates back to the Roman Empire. The first building was built in 1851, and then rebuilt several times. In 1994, after restoration and renovation a modern resort complex opened which operates all year round, equipped with modern technology and able to satisfy the tastes of discerning travelers. Mineral water is used to treat diseases of the musculoskeletal system, rheumatism, and upper and lower respiratory diseases. The complex is open from January 2 - December 20.


11. As Termas de Vizela

Vizela, a small town in northern Portugal where their local thermal springs were known and used by the ancient Romans for therapeutic purposes. In the early 18th century, the sources were not equipped for the practice of hydrotherapy. There were five swimming pools with water of different temperatures, where only the humble poor swam. In 1785, they created the first "spa facilities" which was a miserable hut with thatched roofs. In 1787, after a significant increase in affluence and people who wanted to experience the healing waters, there was an improvement of the existing conditions. That same year, traces of ancient Roman baths were found. In 1811, new and better facilities were created and the city authorities hired a doctor, an expert hydrologist. Time passed, and the baths of Vizela gradually became the modest "The Thermal Spa Queen of Portugal,” (Rainha das termas de Portugal) where wealthy tourists from various countries came to enjoy their treatments. The mineral water is recommended as a treatment for respiratory diseases, rheumatism and skin diseases. *** Unfortunately, the Vizela Spa is currently closed and is scheduled to reopen in 2012.


12. Termas de São Vicente

The São Vicente Spa is located 30 km from the city of Porto. Already in the earliest of civilizations, the waters of the St. Vincent baths have always had an advantage when it came to the quality of its waters. Discovered by the Romans in the year 315 AD, the water quality continues intact to this day. 13. Entre-os-Rios

This thermal spa resort is located in the province of Entre-o-Douro and Minho by the Inatel Entre-os-Rios resort spa with a beautiful view of the surrounding mountains that separate the Douro River and Tamega. The Entre-os-Rios SPA includes a park with walking trails and dense vegetation. The spa´s Mineral water is used to treat: respiratory diseases, diseases of the musculoskeletal system and rheumatism. 14. Aregos

The thermal centre is located in the valley of the Douro River. The first mention of these sources was documented in 1102. In the twelfth century a shelter for the lepers and the dying was founded here. The Caldas (meaning hot), were well known to the Roman bath lovers. The local water sources heats up to 60C. Today, the spa offers an anti-stress, weight loss and rehabilitation program. Aregos operates all year round.


15. Longroiva

Quiet and cozy, the Longrovia Thermal Baths are surrounded by mineral springs, with recognized therapeutic properties that provide health and welfare. In terms of location, the spa is strategically located at the geometric center of the several historic sites of Vila Nova de Foz Coa, Trancoso, Penedono, Celorico de Beira and Numão. The Longroiva thermal spa is a great place to gain strength from nature itself, and is especially beautiful in February when the almond trees are in bloom. Indications: Treatment of degenerative / osteoarthritis, inflammatory / rheumatism and a wide selection of recreational programs. Operates from May to November.


16. São Jorge

The village of Caldas de São Jorge, located 25 km from the city of Porto, is a perfect place to restore physical and psychological equilibrium, which is so easily lost in today´s tense and modern life. The São Jorge Thermal baths are known since ancient times and are famous for its quality of medical treatment such as the successful treatment of respiratory and musculoskeletal system diseases. 17. Carvalhal

The Carvalhal Spa is framed by the mountains of Montemuro and Arada, in Beira Alta at an altitude of 500 meters above sea level, between the Vouga and Paiva rivers in the district of Viseu, Castro Daire municipality. The centre is equipped with modern machinery and its mineral water treats diseases of the skin, digestive and respiratory organs. 18. Caldas da Cavaca

Caldas da Cavaca is located on a farm in the parish of Cortiçada, four kilometers away from Aguiar da Beira. It was opened to public access in 1924, thanks to the initiative of Fernando da Silva Laires. It was he who, in 1919 and 1938, examined and found a very interesting composition in water samples, a high percentage of fluorine. In early 2005, the restoration process of this spa began, new equipment was installed to meet current market needs. Opening to the public occurred in 2008. 19. Termas de Almeida Fonte Santa

20. Termas de São Pedro do Sul

The thermal center of São Pedro receives more than 20,000 visitors each year. It is the largest spa in Portugal with more than two thousand years. These hot springs were used by ancient Romans. 21. Termas do Vale da Mó

At an altitude of 250 meters above sea level, between the dense forest east of Bairrada, lies the little town of Vale da Mó with its main large treasure – ferrous iron water spas. The village is situated on a small strip of land nestled between mountains of pine trees, oaks, cork oaks, olive trees, acacia and eucalyptus. This makes the lush Vale da Mó a modest village, a place where any treatment is pleasant. 22. Termas de Sangemil

Thermal baths of Sangemil are located in the Lajeosa do Dão parish of the Tondela County, near the Dão River and near the city of Carregal do Sul. Open to the public since 1994, and renovated in 1999, the building and equipment were upgraded to attract tourism to these sources. The water features are used to treat osteoporosis and other bone diseases, many respiratory diseases (sinusitis, pharyngitis, etc.) as well as the use of preventive measures - this spa complex offers numerous recreational programs, anti-stress and tonification. 23. Caldas da Felgueira

With a mild continental climate and beautiful scenery of the valley of Alto Mondego, this thermal resort, offers a wide range of quality curative and preventive spa programs. Despite the scientific progress, the millennial age of the mineral water source remains a mystery of Felgueiras´s nature. A unique water that is guided though the earth is used for health, strength and beauty restoration rituals. 24. Termas de Alcafache Spa Termal

The comfortable and welcoming Alcafache Thermal Spa is located in a secluded place in the extensive pine forests at the bottom of the Dão Valley, 8 km from Viseu. This place seems to have been made for recreation and relaxation. 25. Termas da Curia

This community consists of an area of 14 hectares, within which lies the Curia Thermal Spa, Thermal Spa Hotel- Curia, the Spa Thermal Park and the Curia Golf Course. 27. Caldas de Manteigas

The Caldas de Manteigas are located in the heart of the Serra da Estrela Natural Park. 28. Termas do Cró

Located 15km from the city of Sabugal are the Cró Thermals. The first documented mention of these sources in the source code is in 1726.Even so, people have noticed the effect of the use of mineral waters. Water chemistry tests were done in 1891 until 1980. 32.Termas Monte Real

The Thermal Hospital of Caldas da Rainha was founded in 1485 by Queen Leonor and is now the world's oldest, dating back five centuries. The Vimeiro Thermal Spa (Source of the Friars) is located halfway between the village of Maceira and the Porto Novo Beach in the municipality of Torres Vedras. 36. Termas da Fadagosa Nisa

The sulphurous thermal water of the Fadagosa Nisa source has a chemical compound with a therapeutic value in treating rheumatic and respiratory diseases. Here you will find support in the thermal activity and monitoring of medical experts in rheumatology and otolaryngology. Open from April 1, 30 November.

38.Termas de Cabeço de Vide

As a poet once said, of a man´s dream, a masterpiece is born, and so was Cabeço de Vide. After years of waiting and struggle this new beach resort and spa of sulfuric acid was born. Experts, who have studied the sources of water, claim that there is no other water like it Portugal and "has no analogues abroad." Studies have shown that the water used in these baths is about 3,500 years old, and the first to use these sources were the Romans in the time of Caesar Augustus. 41.Termas das Furnas

The Furnas spa is a heat source, located in the eastern part of the Island of São Miguel (Azores). The first thermal establishment was built in 1615, but was destroyed in 1630 by an earthquake and a violent eruption. It is one of the most popular tourist destinations of the century and currently there are 22 different mineral springs and a unique heated pool of sulphurous water.
